T. J. Blake’s “Familiar” Progress
It’s been a while since giving you guys one of these updates on my not so secretly titled novel, “Familiar”.
Now that you know the name of my next novel, I can start opening up a little more about the novel and what you can expect once it’s released.
This psychological paranormal thriller is due for release this year. The first draft is nearly complete and ready for the editing phase, but there’s still work yet.
Don’t judge me too critically on the excerpts I will be sharing with you over the coming months, it is work from my first draft; it’s far from perfect.
The floorboards creak under her weight. Vibrations reverberate through her feet, skulking up her ankles. The drapes in front of her sway. The noise beyond them mounting.
Remember what you rehearsed, Arabella tells herself.
The drapes part. A beam of light swivels, locking onto her.
What can you tell from this small piece of content? Would love to hear what you guys think what this novel will be about and who the main character is.
More excerpts of “Familiar” to come
I just finished writing a scene in my untitled but secretly titled novel. It didn’t take long at all and it was almost as if I barely had control as the scene unfolded; as if entirely by itself.
It prompted this post on my socials:
Holy moly, there was some intense writing yesterday.
Fast pace, creepy, foreshadowing, gore, mystery – that was all rolled into a couple of pages of the book.
I’m making slow progress through this first draft, but it’s coming along nicely.
It’s different to DECEPTION, but I hope that it’s as well received.
To give you some insight into this book…
It’s a paranormal, psychological thriller following a famous psychic medium called Arabella. The story is focused on her life, particularly focusing on her ability to communicate with those on the other side.
However, there is a darkness to her and what she can do. She may be able to talk to her ‘friends’, but not all is as it seems.
This story offers a unique take on spirits and their presence and the signal of their presence. There is also the added twist of a murder mystery, unwanted fame and how complex we are as people.
That’s all I can tell you for now. There is no official synopsis, title or cover, but they are coming.
Let me know your thoughts on this. Does it sound like something you would like to read? Is there anything else you would like to know about this story?
If you’ve been following my blog and Twitter (@TJBlake93) for the last year or so, you will know that I have been working on my next novel. It has been known as my ‘new novel’, ‘next book’ and my favourite, ‘Untitled’.
Now though it has a name. Finally!
I’ve been umming and ahhing about the book’s title for some time now. This new name, which I will reveal soon, has stuck… so far anyway.
Thank you Twitter peeps for your support.
Some of you on Twitter were kind enough to offer your time to read my very, very basic synopsis and hear my potential book titles for the previously untitled novel.
Although I ended up coming with a completely different name, your advice and input meant a great deal to me.
You know who you are. Thank you so much!
More details on the new book’s title will be revealed soon.
A great deal more progress has been made in my latest novel.
I’m currently writing chapter 8, which is just shy of 5k words alone. It’s the biggest chapter in the novel without a doubt. It’s based on the 15 year anniversary show of Arabella’s.
This is one of the lines written in chapter 8:
“Above all, he loves fear. Arabella knows this because the more frightened she feels, the wider his smile becomes.”
Naming the book
Well, I still don’t have a name. However, there are a few names being thrown around.
My partner is calling the book something whilst I’m calling it something else. It’s funny and everything, but I really want a name already!
I’m sure we’re close to a name now though, it won’t be long!
