Poem Attempt 3: 4 5683 968

Firstly I would like to thank everybody who is following my ‘Poem Attempts Weekend’ with me. Hope you’re enjoying them!

Although poetry is completely out of my comfort zone, I decided to throw romance into the mix.
This was another task for my university course. The task was to write a poem using or about technology. A pretty broad subject right?
I decided to focus partly on texts/texting, including stereotypical ‘text speech’.

If you haven’t already been following my ‘Poem Attempts Weekend, then please feel free catch up starting with ‘Poem Attempt 1: Invisible Friend’ followed by ‘Poem Attempt 2: My Family’.

But for now, here’s Poem Attempt 3!

4 5683 968

Dazzled by the phone’s screen in the blackness,

Waiting for a text or call.

Staring at her name, I picture her within,

Lustring hair,

Outstandingly addictive stare,

Voluptuous and,

Enticing lips.

Previous message, “its nt u its me”,

Patterns itself across my watering eyes,

The inner voice repeating the text,

That un-describable feeling from my stomach to my throat,

Salted tears fills my senses, hope disperse.

“plz dnt leave”, followed by 4 5683 968. Send.

Phone groans, light shines; burning eyes.

“needin space” comes the reply,

The brain freezes, the heart sinks,

Loneliness settles,

Tears fall.

I begin to type, what to say?

Beg her? Respect her plea?

Instead, I just type “4 5683 968”,

“I Love You”

Poem Attempt 2: My Family

We in the UK are experiencing weather which we are certainly not used to. Sun and heat!
My next poem attempt will be a good one to read in the sun!

This is the first poem that I wrote.
It was part of a task at university where we were given a number of words that we needed to include into the piece. The words I chose were feud, whir, Blackberry and a couple of other which I cannot remember.

But please, tell me what you think of my poetry. You can look at my ‘Poem Attempt 1: Invisible Friend’ by clicking here.

Enjoy!

My Family

Standing upright, forgetting the past feuds,

I stare.

Blades of grass, stroke between my toes,

Clouds afloat on the deep blue,

Wind hits the trees, peeling to a whir,

Curls of smoke cascade the flame, cooking raw meat.

I stare.

Dangling hand feels the rough, moist lick from the Spaniel,

The Blackberry drones against the wood,

The bass of voices vibrate through the ground,

Followed by a roar of laughter,

I stare.

Forgetting the past feuds, I stand upright.

I join my family around the fire.

Poem Attempt 1: Invisible Friend

This is one of the first poems I wrote. We were given the opportunity to write what ever we wanted to but to insert break lines. So I decided to combine Poetry and my favoured genre Horror.
I hope this works, let me know what you think of it.

Invisible Friend

I walk in, where

I once lived.

Wooden rocking horse and

Ticking grandfather clock

All remain.

glowing yellow eyes appear,

Beneath the patchy, carpeted stairs leading

to my bedroom.

gaping cracks and

Burrowed mice holes in each corner of

the worn steps.

My friend waits for me,

Gold ponytails with plastic flowers,

Just like my mummy did to me.

light blue dress with printed daffodils,

Red shoes and a friendship bracelet which I made

but she found.

We run to our room.

Sharing the bed each night.

We have tea parties,

my friend hosts.

Offering me and the guests tea,

her daddy bursts in.

‘who are you talking to darling?’

Previously loved,

here my spirit broke free.

My Poetry Attempts – Coming Soon!

For one of my Creative Writing modules at University last semester I had to write four poems. Obviously when I read that I needed to write poems for a small segment of my degree I did feel a bit like ‘Oh shit!’ because I have never been good at writing poetry!

But to be honest it wasn’t too bad. My aim was to try and write poems in a different way, to a similar way to what I would write if I was writing a novel.
I did this for a couple of poems but others I had to stick to a template supplied by the University.

I will upload two over the weekend for you guys to read. Please let me know what you think of them.

 Endurance Apocalypse Book cover

“London is silent. Severed bodies lie amongst the rubble. What once was a lively city is a now a murderous grave, enclosed in smoke and ash. The cause of the destruction is unknown. Left haunted and terrified, survivor Tom Williams confronts the brutal, mutilated streets as he fights to uncover the truth. Could he be the last hope to restore normality?”

Mobile Phone VS Book!!

Recently, I came back from a weeks holiday in Santorini (Greece). This is my story and plea to never let books die out.

Whilst on holiday, I had a little accident. On the FIRST day, that’s right the first bloody day, I decided to have a dip in the swimming pool. As I stepped into the chilling chlorinated waters, I realised that my pocket was rather bulky. I felt my pocket and thought ‘there’s something hard in this pocket.’ Now I know what you’re thinking (dirty minded people) Let me make this clear… there were a lot of older women with EVERYTHING on show whilst they tanned so it isn’t… let’s say a part of my body. But as I forced my hand into my pocket, I yanked out my phone, covered in water.

‘Great, my life is ruined.’ I thought as I sulked back to my sun bed. I even went to the trouble of placing my phone in some Uncle Ben’s Rice to soak up the water. It didn’t work so it meant that I would have to cope an entire week without my phone.

Admittedly, it was fine, I did not miss my phone. Instead, I spent all my holiday reading.
I read a few books. I read Eeny Meeny by M. J. Arlidge (Average) , A Tap on The Window by Linwood Barclay (A very good book) and most of Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (Boring at first, better in the second half.).
As I read, I realised that I actually missed reading. With University, Writing and part time work, I never really get to sit down and just read whatever I want to and this holiday gave me that opportunity.
I honestly felt happier reading than if I was on my phone crushing candy, sending selfies or Tweeting about my day to people who simply don’t really care.

So lets all hail books because they’re amazing. Never let them become extinct. Peace.

The End of the World Cup!

Last night was the last match of the World Cup.

We all watched the finalists Germany and Argentina battle it out to win the biggest competition in the world!
The game was close, going beyond the standard ninety minutes, and into extra time, where the winning goal came just seven minutes from Penalties. Mario Gotze scored a great goal to seal the game for Germany.

Although the game was even, Germany deserved the win having been the strongest team in the competition. Their highlight of the competition of course will be beating the hosts 7-1 (which instantly made them favourites).

Overall the game was close, both teams cancelled each other out making it difficult to create too many chances, but when Germany got their biggest chance through Gotze, he made no mistake and put it into the back of the net in style.

So the Germans are the World Champions of football and that signals the end of the World Cup for another four years!
