Three years of self-publishing as T. J. Blake

I love nothing more than getting lost in my own imaginary world, surrounded by people who I do not know but care about tremendously; and then left to observe this universe, and tell you what is happening.

March 2016 marked three years into my indie author career, and the 23rd of August marked three years since I was featured in The Surrey Advertiser, with my debut novel, Endurance.

My time of self-publishing horror and thriller novels has been a real blast; I simply cannot complain about my experience with self-publishing what so ever. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed writing numerous stories for people to read, I’ve loved hearing what people think of my stories, I’ve been both stunned and thrilled about seeing sales across the world, and I’m excited for what’s to come.

I thrive on entertaining people and I love nothing more than getting lost in my own imaginary world, surrounded by people who I do not know but care about tremendously; and then left to observe this universe, and tell you what is happening.

My love for writing will never change, so there is a lot more to come from me – I hope you don’t mind?

Latest
Late July, early August of 2016, I decided to self-publish my fourth novel, Deception: A Love of Lies

It’s my latest psychological thriller, based on an obsessive dog walker called Billy. He loves nothing more than to observe ‘his’ woodlands with his springer spaniel, Ella. But during these ventures into his woodlands, he notices an attractive lady from afar. Check out the synopsis of Deception below, and feel free to order it on Amazon now – you can begin reading in seconds on Kindle & eBook – getBook.at/DeceptionTJBlake

Deception Synopsis
“Through the stark and leafless trees, I see her.

I remember the first day I saw her; an instant attraction. I think she’s beautiful. She has such pensive blue eyes; they remind me of a blue sky right before the sun descends. Every time I see her I want to talk to her, I want to get to know her, and I want to be her friend.
She usually completes the lower woodland walk in six minutes and forty-two seconds; she misses the deeper woodlands and goes home, I believe.

I walk down the road at the same speed as her. She reaches the crossroads at the bottom of the road, looks both ways, and then jogs across into the garden of a house. I stop walking and concentrate on which house is hers.

I can’t stare too long but I am intrigued already, I will come back.”

I guarantee that once you read my new thriller, you will not be able to look at passing dog walkers the same!

Q&A about my new release, Deception: A Love of Lies

What is your latest book called and what is it about?
My latest book is called Deception – a love of lies, which is about a lonely man, his dog, his love for his woodlands, and a lady that has caught his eye during his daily dog walks.

Billy and his dog, Ella, live in a bungalow on Lavingsham Close; a private estate in Surrey. Billy is someone who has lived in the Surrey area for all of his life; which means he has an undeniable love for the place, especially for the woodlands just behind his bungalow – where he walks Ella everyday. During his recent walks though, he has noticed an attractive woman walking her dog too in the woods. He likes the look of her, and really wants to get to know her.

Very happy to see my first review for my brand new psychological thriller novel, Deception – A Love of Lies

I have been intrigued to hear what my readers have thought of my new novel, and this first review has made me extremely happy and confident. I’m sure that my readers will appreciate this psychological book – it possesses a close proximity of setting, unique characters and an intricate story to make you desire more.

Here’s my first review from a happy reader on Amazon.co.uk:

“Amazing novel! Another great read from T. J. Blake. This is the fourth novel from this up and coming writer. ‘Deception: A Love of Lies’ has you gripped from the very first chapter and I really could not put this down. The character and scene depictions really paint the picture in your mind. A highly believable plot line, intriguing characters and twists & turns make this a real page turner. Well done on another great release. I look forward to the next release in the not too distant future.”

‘Deception – A Love of Lies’ release date revealed!

After two years of research, naming & re-naming, plotting, stalking, dog walking, writing and editing, I can now finally say my fourth novel, ‘Deception – A Love of Lies‘ is now available on Amazon!

So, the question now is, what is Deception about? If you’ve been keeping up with my blog posts, you’ll know it’s based around an avid dog walker who takes a shining to a female dog walker. I don’t want to give anything at all away though, so I will leave you with the synopsis for Deception.

FINALDECEPTIONCOVER

My holiday readings in Cyprus

I have recently just come back from a two week break from Cyrpus – which was lovely – and now I’m back, finishing the last few things for Deception.

From the image below, you can see the clear waters and bright blue sky of Cyprus; which was stunning to experience and look at on a daily basis. Not only that, it allowed us to travel around and experience various days out. They’re also handy for clearing your mind and thinking about new story ideas – pleased to say I planned out a new book idea whilst away.

The pic below is me thinking of new book ideas – candid shot of course, and completely natural…

On holiday I began with a Linwood Barclay novel called ‘Far From True’. It was a good story with enticing reading to keep up with all the branching stories in the book. I felt though that there was a lot of focus on ‘The Twenty-Three’ killer in Promise Falls, but there was no reason for as much focus; especially as there was no conclusion to this. I think I was acting or thinking a bit like a spoilt child though, wanting to know who the killer was, but I’ll definitely be reading the third book of his book series. That’s another thing to mention, it is part of the ‘Promise Falls Trilogy’ but is still a good standalone book, as I haven’t read the previous novel.

I rate Linwood Barclay’s book a 3.5/5

My second read was Stephen King’s new book, ‘End of Watch’. Please note, this is the finale of the Bill Hodges Trilogy.

The book is ok, I felt like it was a bit far fetched and predictable for me, and it took a while for me to accept all there was to accept about the ‘Zappits’ (without giving anything away). Other reviews have suggested that it is important to read the two previous books before this one – which may have improved my opinion on this book.

I rate it 3/5

My third read was Peter James’s ‘You Are Dead’.

This was certainly a typical British detective and mystery type of novel set in Brighton, following main protagonist Grace. Again, this book is part of a series, but stood well on its own. It started really well, having you fear for the life of Logan Somervile. Only negative point about this book was that I felt it was a little repetitive; asking/suggesting the same questions to the reader. I did guess some of the story, but there were still some clever surprises for the reader – which was refreshing, and a good last scene with the showdown with the brander and another side story.

I rate this one 4/5

I then started reading Stephen King’s ‘Dreamcatcher’, which seems to make me laugh quite a lot, which is quite refreshing 🙂

Anyway, these were my holiday readings. Hope you enjoyed this post, if you’ve read these books and would like to comment, feel free!

To finish, here’s me swimming in the chilly but beautiful Adonis Baths and Waterfall in Cyprus.
