Dark fantasy is a new genre for me, but I really like this short story. It’s full of mystery, it’s dark and most of all, it’s creepy.

Check out my short dark fantasy story ‘Alive’

I wrote this short story for a university assignment in my final year. I’ve let the story stew a little over the past year or so, and I’ve even had some spare time to try and extend it into a full length novel. But with my other commitments to working on my upcoming novels DECEPTION and Endurance: Recovery, I feel that Alive is probably best (at the moment) to remain as a Dark Fantasy short story.

I’ve priced the book at the lowest price I could list it for, and I am hoping that many people will be able to read my short story, and give me their opinion on my brand new eBook. This story is different to my normal books – The Author is a mystery thriller novel which plays on literature, writing and story telling (a book within a book novel); The Endurance Series is an action-packed, fast-paced, dark, creepy, apocalyptic and dystopian book series; DECEPTION (set for release in the summer of 2016) is a thriller novel based on a lonely prowler and avid dog walker; and my brand new short story, Alive, is a dark fantasy about a woman who has left her family – whom believe her to be dead.

Download Alive today on Amazon for eBook and Kindle.

Creative Writing: Illusory Waters

Afternoon everyone.

I thought I would let you all know that I have now added another Creative Writing piece to my sparkly new Creative Writing page. This new entry is a short story of mine, which was previously called The Metaphorical Truth, now called Illusory Waters.
I changed the name simply because Illusory Waters is much more appropriate, and I think it sounds much better!

If you have a spare five minutes, then please, have a read of my new short story Illusory Waters.

Further amendments to my blog

What have I been doing with all of my Saturday morning? Well I’m feeling a bit ill, so I thought why not stay in and do some work on my blog; before knuckling down to write some more of DECEPTION.

So, what have I done? Well, I came across a piece of work which I wrote in my first year of university. At the time I think I received a 2:1, but reading back I’m not sure how I got such a good mark!
Anyway, I went through it, made a couple of changes and now it’s available to read on my blog as an article. This brings me onto my first change to the blog, my new page – the’Articles‘ page – where I can now upload articles I write or find lurking within my computer. You’re probably wondering what my article is about? It’s about how technological development has impacted our language. The article covers a basic overview of how technology has adapted, as well as looking into how it has changed people’s writing and speaking capabilities, or has it? – How has technology affected the relation between speech and writing?

I’ve also created a ‘Creative Writing‘ page, which basically merges most of my creative pieces together. These pieces currently include my Flash Fiction, ‘Poem Attempts’ and Short Story Nightmare.
On this Creative Writing page, I have added something pretty nifty. Everyone loves a poll (I know I certainly do) and when we see one on a website, it’s hard not to vote, right? This is why I have created a poll for my Creative Writing page. By going to this page and scrolling to the bottom, you can find the poll and place a vote!
It’s a basic question, it’s not political and it isn’t going to impact anyone’s life, but I would like to know which of my Creative Writing pieces you enjoyed most.

Those are my two major changes to the T. J. Blake #Author blog, feel free to have a nose!

Another makeover for the blog!

Monday night’s creepy dream!

I turn into the private close and pull up in the layby outside my parent’s home. Switching off the engine and shuffling in my seat toward the house, I see movement at the top window.

Unplugging my seat belt and unwillingly stepping out into the dingy cold weather, I look back up to the top window and catch the blinds slowly rising, revealing a figure. Turning back to the car I press lock and await the clunk of the car doors before heading toward the house.

Looking up at the top window I see a face I don’t recognise. A face that  sends a shiver down my spine. A face that looks like a mask. Midstride I freeze and stare back at the bald man. His puffy, grinning and moon crescent shaped grin frightens me. It’s permanent, with a bloody redness to it.

I run straight through the wide open door, into the sitting room and then toward the stairs.

“Mum, Dad?” I shout.

Third step up I see him, staring at me, still smiling uncontrollably from the top of the stairs. Reaching out to him I push him against the wall, he doesn’t flinch, he continues to smile.

“Where are mum and dad?” I hear the fear and shaky intonation in my voice.

He continues staring and keeping his tight smile before eerily telling me “They’re not here.”

I push him aside and run into my parent’s bedroom, staring to the bed I look away. I can’t look again. But I have to.

Looking back to the bed I see two mounds under the duvet.

Dream ended!

That was my nightmare. It was quite creepy and easily woke me up and had me thinking for a while before settling back down.

But why on earth did I dream of that happening? Especially with the eery man – extremely creepy!

Feel free to turn your dream or nightmare into a short story and post it below!

Six word story on Twitter

‘In six words or fewer, write a story about someone you see everyday but never speak to. #amwriting #sixwordstory’

So here’s my story – ‘@WriterlyTweets she gleams amongst the swarm #sixwordstory #amwriting #shortstory’

You give it a go!

It’s been a while but I’ve given ‘Flash! Friday’ a go!

For this weeks Flash! Friday Fiction the aim was to base your story on any two of their four given story elements, I decided to go for conflict – man v nature and setting – an island. The aim is also to keep the word count between 75-125 words.
So below is what I wrote, my short story The Awakening.

The Awakening (111 words)

Awakening from a forced sleep I feel a cooling breeze and an itchy sensation on my face.
Listening to the distant breaking waves I imagine a perfectly shaped glowing pellet. It closes in and expands into a burning planet above me. Spotting the curling flames descend from the orb I watch on as they slither across night sky, generating a portal to the inside of a volcano. The peaceful and unaffected sea water lights up and reflects the fierce and tender bloodshot sky. I feel escalating footsteps numbly thudding around me, and then I remember.

Opening my eyes I stare across the deserted sandy island. They said this day was coming.

A Miniature Story of mine

I’ve recently been strongly affected by something that I found out, and so I thought I would write a miniature story about it. The challenge is not to write more than 140 characters, which is a great challenge. See if you can figure out what the story is about.

‘I’m forced to come out just twice a day, made to perform and play. 5 minutes gone, off I go, back to my lonesome cave.’
