Have funny clips on social media replaced telling jokes?

This is a very random post of mine, but the other day it occurred to me that I hadn’t heard a joke for a long time.

Now of course in the last few years the surge of technology especially mobile phones has been huge and admittedly fantastic. With phones comes social media and with social media comes funny images and videos.
For me I feel that these have replaced telling jokes. I’ve done it myself, I used to love telling jokes but I haven’t for a long time, I instead say ‘Oh I saw this hilarious video the other day.’ and whip it my phone, go onto Facebook or Twitter and the video; I’ve noticed others do this also.

Not that there’s anything wrong with this, admittedly there is some funny stuff daily on the internet, but don’t you miss those sometimes cheesy, witty and hilarious jokes that stay with you and make you chuckle to yourself throughout the day?
Thinking about it, the videos and images do that too!

It’s just a thought of mine. Let me know what you think.

Inkitt’s Horror Writing Contest – ‘Alive’ by T. J. Blake

Hello there!

I have just entered a writing competition. I would really appreciate it (if you have time of course) to have a look at my short story ‘Alive’.

‘Alive’ is actually a book idea of mine in which I have started writing. I wrote it as a short story first, but now I am planning to mould it into a full novel within the next few years.
‘Alive’ is a fantasy, horror and suspense story that follows Sarah, whose life has been turned upside down after she crashes her car into a lake.

For nearly a year now I have been living a lie. My husband Jack and my two daughters Lucy and Sam believe that I am dead.”
It would be great to know what you think of it. Please read ‘Alive’ and please give it a heart and vote on the site, here’s the link for ‘Alive’ on the Inkitt’s Horror Writing Contest: http://www.inkitt.com/stories/8215

Valentines Day has arrived

It’s the day that single people detest, but it’s officially the day to be loved up and express your love to your partner by buying her gifts.
Personally I don’t really understand Valentines Day. I think it is a ploy to make some money out of people.
Wouldn’t people prefer to be surprised with flowers, chocolate and love on a random day of the year rather than a specified day?

Well that took a dark turn…

That’s enough negativity for one day.
Having said this, I will still be ‘taking part’ in valentines day with my girlfriend. I bought her a card, chocolates and a rose (I can do romance).
I also suggested going to see American Sniper for our valentines film, but she said no. Instead my suggestion of Big Hero 6 turned out to be a winner!

Everyone enjoy your day whatever you’re doing.

Miniature Stories – 140 Story

I submitted a 140 character story to Miniature Stories/140story today. To my surprise mine was selected and published onto their site.

140 story jan

“Living a new life unnoticed, journeying undetected. Without a sound, without a voice, without a touch, watch over your loved ones.”

What do you think my story is about?

Do check out their site and have a go yourself. It’s a fun challenge. Visit 140 story at http://www.miniaturestory.org/

Dissertation and Author Work

Currently I am concentrating on my University course Creative Writing and English Language rather than trying to complete my latest books Alive and Endurance: Recovery. I promise I will get around to them, I know some of you are waiting the final instalment of the Endurance Series but don’t worry you won’t have to wait too long it will be coming this year, but unfortunately I have to put University first on my mental to do list. Number 1 being Graduate with a degree.

Although, it is great doing Creative Writing as part of my degree because it means that I can still work on future projects. For my creative writing dissertation I am in fact working on a potential book of mine. I had an idea of a book that I wanted to write and it’s an idea that you probably wouldn’t expect me to write.
This book has been given the provisional name The Dog Walk.
This idea is one that is very unlike me. It is a suspense and mystery novel which of course is my favourite genre to write but there will be no violence. I have made this an important rule of mine, if any it will be minimal.
If you’ve read my three books then you will know that the violence in them is quite a main part of my books but this one it will not and instead I will be using something else to drive the story and my reader crazy!

Fortunately this is my last year of university. After this I can really get into my writing and start producing more for you all to enjoy!

With three books in the line, one of them being the conclusion to the Endurance Series, another a Supernatural horror and the other a non-violent suspense novel, I’m sure there will be something for you to enjoy.

My article chosen for ‘WST Magazine’

I submitted an article to ‘World Study Travels’ called ‘To go abroad or not…’ in which I speak about my opinion and experiences of travelling abroad and my holidays in the UK.

Go and have a read of my article in the ‘WST Magazine’ at: http://worldstudytravels.com/go-abroad/

Enjoy

The blog has been given a makeover!

It’s all happening here on T. J. Blake Author. As we await the release of the second instalment of The Endurance Series, ENDURANCE: APOCALYPSE (which I promise is coming really soon!) I have also began writing the finale of The Endurance Series ENDURANCE 3!

But until then, take a moment to look at my blog’s new layout; it has changed substantially.
I hope you like it. Feel free to express your opinion.

Because it’s nearly christmas, here’s another teaser from ENDURANCE: APOCALYPSE (2).

“A sharp, rigid-shaped black machine floats above the M25. Another two appear either side of it. As they hover in the sky, more appear in the distance along the M25. They move into a formation. One stays above the motorway, another glides to the right and the other to the left. They are motionless on the light breeze.

The people in their cars begin to look up to the skies, craning their necks and tilting their heads back to look.”

My Writing Status

Today I returned to University for my 3rd and final year of Creative Writing and English Language.

This year does look as if it is going to be a hectic one; with much hard work and writing to be done.

This means that I will not be able to write as much for my books. However this will not affect the release of Endurance: Apocalypse which is coming very soon!

For now, why not check out my releases Endurance and The Author!?

Books By T. J. Blake

It’s My Birthday!

So now I am officially 21! I don’t feel much different but 21 is quite a scary age to be. It is the time to evaluate my life and decide what path I want to take.
On the plus side, I can now legally drink in the US 🙂

Had a great day today at Discovery Cove, Florida; celebrating my birthday!

Thank you to all those who celebrated with me for my party a couple of weeks ago; all that wished me happy birthday and of course to the two people who celebrated with me today; my girlfriend April and best bud David.
